Telangana - Facts
As we have seem time and again, it is very easy to score politically by engaging peoples emotions. Telangana is one such cause that is stirred up by unemployed career politicians. Telangana movement 40 years ago was probably has some basis, as Telangana was truly under developed under Nizams who apparently cared more about their own wealth than their citizens well being. Their apathy towards their public is demonstrated by the fact that while his population is among the worst served, he was named the richest man in the world by TIME magazine.
But times have changed, under United Andhra Pradesh, Telangana regions advancements in socio-economic development well outpaced rest of the state. The 3 Rayalaseema districts and some Coastal districts have been worse off with the united AP.
Following chart is prepared from two separate reports with the 1971 rankings and 2001 rankings for the districts. I've taken an average of Agricultural, Infrastructure and Socio Economic rankings of 2001 and compared with the 1971 ranks. The difference in the rankings from 1971 to 2001 is listed in the last column, which clearly demonstrates the improvement in the standing for Telangana districts.
